Thispaper analyzes the link between parenting and child development. It seeks toidentify feedback mechanisms between these two dimensions by considering mothers'personality traits and education as moderators. We found a strong link between externalizingproblems in children and authoritarian parenting styles and did not findinertia for authoritarian parenting. It was also found that the link betweenpersonality traits and parenting often cited in the literature may have somebiases if the child's problems are not taken into account, mainly due to therole of neuroticism and conscientiousness. Finally, it was found that externalizingproblems affects parenting style differently depending on the mothers'personality traits and education. The effect is more profound among motherswith low levels of education, agreeableness and conscientiousness, and greaterlevels of neuroticism.
