ECINEQ - Latin America and the Caribbean Chapter (ECINEQ-LAC) Second Conference
The Society for the Study of Economic Inequality (ECINEQ) has been founded in Palma de Mallorca in July 2005 as a not-for-profit association supporting the study in the field of economics of inequality (see list of founding members).
The Society aims at providing an international forum for all researchers interested in the analysis of economic inequality and related fields, bringing together the diversity of perspectives, improving the interaction between researchers, policy makers and all the actors interested in understanding the determinants and the implications of economic inequality and its measurement.
Over the past two decades, ECINEQ has built a vibrant international community through its biennial meetings, held in Mallorca 2005, Berlin 2007, Buenos Aires 2009, Catania 2011, Bari 2013, Luxembourg 2015, New York City 2017, Paris 2019, London 2021, Aix-en-Provence 2023, and Washington DC 2025. Ecineq has now over 300 members from more than seventy countries, affiliated with universities and other institutions.
The Latin American Chapter ECINEQ-LAC is a newer initiative aimed at extending that spirit of exchange across the region. After a very successful first conference in Mexico City in 2024, we are excited to continue building this community in Montevideo.
The second ECINEQ-LAC conference will be held at Facultad de Ciencias Económicas y de Administración, Universidad de la República, Montevideo, on 28th-29th October 2026. The Scientific Committee welcomes submissions of papers with theoretical and empirical analysis on inequality, mobility, employment, poverty, and exploitation, broadly defined.
Papers focused on Latin America and the Caribbean or on issues relevant for the region will be given priority.
The Revista de Economía Política de Buenos Aires will publish a special issue dedicated to a selection of papers presented at the conference.
